Abigail is 2023 graduate from the State University of New York at New Paltz, where she majored in visual arts education. She is also received minors in art history and religious studies. Abby has a concentration in painting and drawing, but also explores various mediums such as photography, metals, and sculpture. Art has always had an influence on Abby's life due to the fact that her grandmother would take her to the Memorial Art Gallery of Rochester while growing up. Her mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer when Abby was only nine years old. Going to the gallery with her grandmother soon became an escape from reality and being surrounded by artwork became a source of comfort. After her moms passing when Abby was fifteen, she began to become more invested in creating and decided to pursue a life in the art world. Art for her has become a way of connecting communities and people of all different backgrounds to create a deeper relationship with themselves and the world around them.
Aside from her studies, she has worked as a gallery assistant at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art on the SUNY New Paltz campus. She also works as an intern for Artist Talk on Art (ATOA) since May of 2021. ATOA is the longest ongoing panel series for Artists in New York City. Her main focus is archival work and completing a 5-year update for the Smithsonian Institution for the Archives of American Art. This project involves sorting through past ATOA records from 1975 onward and organizing them to be sent and prepared for the Smithsonian Institution. Abby has also worked as a curatorial assistant in Woodstock, NY, where she created a catalog for the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild show titled “A Sense of Place." Those artists include Judy Pfaff, Joan Snyder, and Mark Frank.
Abby has a love for teaching and has facilitated at home art lessons for students. She was the secretary for the Art Education Association at SUNY New Paltz and is also a member of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education. She loves working with students of all ages and has past experience as a camp counselor at Peacemakers Camp in Rochester, NY. She hopes to pursue a career that involves creating and making connections with the world around her.
